The Diamond – Heineken Hoek

Amsterdam

This project is a prime example of co-creation. In close collaboration with MVSA Architects and Octatube, every choice—from light color (cool white, 4000K) to placement—was meticulously crafted. Using mock-ups, lighting calculations, and practical tests, a lighting scheme was created that optimally showcases the diamond facade, without any annoying reflections or the familiar "zebra crossing effect."

The renovated Heineken Hoek demonstrates how architecture, light, and technology can merge into a comprehensive visual experience. From A to WOW. Anyone walking across Leidseplein today will agree: this diamond sparkles brighter than ever.

Customer challenge

The Heineken Hoek has been a landmark on Leidseplein for decades. Yet, the iconic location was in need of a fresh impetus. Livingprojects was involved from the outset to create a lighting design that enhances the layered architecture without being overpowering.

The solution

Commissioned by Heineken Nederland and Caransa Groep, MVSA Architects designed a completely new building with a bold, contemporary character. Featuring a transparent Octatube curtain wall, six stories, a glass canopy, and a façade that subtly references the famous Koh-i-Noor diamond, The Diamond is not only a four-star hotel but also an ode to Amsterdam's diamond heritage. A subtle yet powerful lighting solution that illuminates the glass facade from within. Invisibly placed, without distracting elements, and fully tailored to the comfort of hotel guests. The light should shine, not disturb. Therefore, Livingprojects opted for a solution that was not only aesthetically pleasing but also created a sense of tranquility in the hotel rooms.
