The Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG), a 100,000 person stadium in Melbourne, hosts major international, national, and local sporting events and concerts, including the Boxing Day Test, AFL Grand Final, and performances by artists such as AC/DC and Taylor Swift. The project involved retrofitting 12 electrical zones across 7 levels, replacing the legacy control system with a Dynalite solution to deliver enhanced, venue-wide control.
MCG (Melbourne Cricket Ground) Sports Lighting Control Upgrade and Replacement
Melbourne, Victoria, Australia
Customer challenge
Moving the entire stadium onto a single lighting control solution across all areas. The project had to be completed around a very busy existing event schedule including AFL Grand Final & Boxing Day Test.
The solution
System Manager, installed in 2019, initially controlled sports lighting power and modes and has now been expanded to all public spaces. The final solution delivers cohesive stadium-wide control solution, enabling blackout for concerts or preset configurations for sporting events with single-button activation. Function rooms feature integrated general lighting and RGBW theming via PDTS touchscreens. The cohesive system manages sports lighting, general illumination, and thematics throughout the venue, with extensive integration across Pharos, Luminex, Philips Arenavision Gen 3, room booking systems, and DMX512 for thematics.
