Destelbergen Library is innovating

Destelbergen Library, Destelbergen, Belgium

Destelbergen Library has implemented a policy that limits energy consumption and CO2 emissions, inspiring other public buildings to follow.

"We buy light, not luminaires. Thanks to Circular Lighting, we'll have no worries during the ten years of the contract."

Elsie Sierens, Mayor of Destelbergen

Customer Challenge

The city council made a clear request to Signify. They required a light level of 500 lux in a building that was previously equipped with traditional lighting, and they needed the solution to be as sustainable as possible. "We wanted a lighting system that fits our vision of sustainability while meeting our budgetary constraints," said elated new mayor Elsie Sierens.

The right lighting

"We didn't have to invest a single euro," the mayor smiles. Every year, the municipality pays a lump sum slightly higher than the previous operating costs. But the energy savings, due to the use of LEDs, can reach 70%. So the municipality wins. Signify takes care of everything, allowing us to focus on the library's visitors. "With our Circular Lighting, we want to improve the quality of life and contribute to a more sustainable world," explains Gerlinde Haberl from Signify.
