Smart lighting for a future-proof campus

Eindhoven University of Technology (TU/e), Neuron Building, Eindhoven, The Netherlands

TU/e Neuron is an inspiring learning environment with innovation and collaboration at the centre. With a smart lighting system that automatically adapts to the buildings usage, the university saves energy and ensures an enjoyable working environment.

"This lighting not only brightens the spaces but also guides the way for our technical innovators toward the future."

— Thijs Meulen, Energy Manager, TU/e

Customer Challenge

TU/e wanted a lighting system that was not only functional and energy-efficient but also enhanced the learning environment. With varying lighting needs across study areas, offices, and collaboration spaces, a fixed system lacked the necessary flexibility. The university needed a solution that would automatically adjust to occupancy, daylight, and the specific use of each room, all without being complex to operate.

The Solution

We implemented a smart lighting solution that responds fully automatically to presence and daylight levels. Building managers can monitor and make adjustments through the Signify dashboard if needed, but in practice, the system operates mostly on its own. This reduces energy consumption, ensures efficient use of light, and helps create a sustainable and comfortable campus environment.
