- Installation may save city hundreds of thousands in costs, and is designed to enhance livability throughout the province
- Connectivity nodes come standard, making solution “future ready”
Markham, Ontario – Royal Philips (NYSE: PHG, AEX: PHIA), the global leader in lighting today announced the latest installation of its new Philips RoadFocus LED Cobra Head Luminaires, an innovative lighting technology designed to enhance the livability of cities. By late summer, Ville de Trois-Rivières in Quebec is expected to be outfitted with over 9,000 luminaires, making it the most recent city to convert its roadways to potential energy and cost saving solutions from Philips. With an estimated 60 percent gain in energy efficiency with new Philips RoadFocus luminaires, Ville de Trois-Rivières expects to save $475,000 in energy, as well as $150,000 per year in maintenance costs.
“We reviewed proposals from many companies in considering a switch to LED street lighting,”
said Vincent Turgeon, Eng., electrical coordinator at Ville de Trois-Rivières. “In comparing performance and the cost of ownership, Philips RoadFocus was clearly the winner in our opinion. These luminaires may present an opportunity to reduce light wattage, which could result in energy conservation and efficiency, and white LED light is designed to provide a safer light source and may help increase visibility for both pedestrians and motorists.”
Philips outdoor LED solutions such as the RoadFocus luminaire can help cities achieve their energy goals and are designed to help make roads safer for citizens, while potentially reducing maintenance expenses. When installations in Ville de Trois-Rivières and several additional cities in Quebec are complete, the province will shine brightly with nearly 20,000 Philips RoadFocus LED luminaires in total.
With a sleek, low-profile design, RoadFocus LED Luminaires offer an alternative that surpasses the performance of high intensity discharge (HID) lamps, while preserving the familiar cobra head roadway lighting aesthetic. RoadFocus LED Luminaires are designed to cover roads with even, high-quality white light (ranging from 70 to 400W HID replacement), which may reduce light pollution and can provide drivers with an increased sense of security on the road.
“We designed RoadFocus with our customers in mind, to help them reap the benefits of LED energy-efficiency, while still being able to take advantage of the latest lighting technologies, such as controls and management systems, when they are ready for that next step,” said Michael Gentile, vice-president of Philips Lighting Canada. “These luminaires fit seamlessly into the city’s infrastructure with their familiar shape, while allowing residents of Ville de Trois-Rivières to experience high-quality road lighting that compliments the city’s aesthetic, and may help keep maintenance costs down.”
RoadFocus LED Luminaires offer even more benefits when paired with Philips standalone or connected LED outdoor lighting solutions, including real-time alerts that are designed to allow for improved maintenance response, and may provide cost and energy savings from the ability to dim luminaires as needed. RoadFocus LED Luminaires come ready to accept Philips connector nodes at installation, and can be easily added at any time.
The first RoadFocus LEDs arrive in Ville de Trois-Rivières this month and citizens can expect to be traveling, working and living under the improved lighting conditions of the completed installation by late summer.
