Light enables learning through play – Argentina

Outdoor LED lights at neighborhood clubs are transforming evenings into safe, joyful spaces for children to play, connect, and grow, strengthening community bonds and well-being.

In Villars, Villa Ciudad Parque, and Tres Esquinas, Argentina, outdoor LED lights are now shining across community football fields, giving children and adolescents the freedom to play safely after sunset. These lights not only extend the hours of play but also create opportunities for social connection, healthy competition, and personal growth.

At Club Calaguala in Villa Ciudad Parque, Córdoba, Alicia Ojeda reflects on the transformation: “It was a field that could not be used during dark hours. We are very happy because the boys and girls from the club and nearby locations have the possibility to train in better conditions. They have new opportunities.”

Similarly, at Club Unión Ferroviaria in Villars, Buenos Aires, Chato Vidal highlights how the new lighting changes the rhythm of the day:

We are thrilled because this is incredible. The opportunity of scheduling matches at night is something that did not exist in this place. The heat at noon is impossible to stand. We can create better conditions for the future of our community."

At Club Juventud Unida in Tres Esquinas, San Juan, Noelia Morales shares: “It is very important to have a field with these conditions to keep on working for our kids. We made a field out of nothing, the only thing that was missing was the light and now we have it, it is what we desired for so long, we are very happy.” The lights have transformed this once-simple space into a vibrant hub where children can continue learning, playing, and connecting long after the sun goes down.

Argentina has around 20,000 neighborhood clubs that play a critical role in social development, especially in vulnerable communities. By equipping these spaces with lighting, the Signify Foundation and Fundación River Plate ensure that children have safe, inclusive, and empowering environments where they can thrive, even after dark.

This project is just the first step. Over the coming years, the initiative aims to expand to more than 20 communities, bringing the power of light and play to thousands more children across Argentina.
