What is the value of light? It used to be defined by the single function of illumination. But today, it is so much more.

 

Light can influence how we feel, how we perform, how we connect and, increasingly, how we address some of the world’s most pressing challenges. Our purpose: to unlock this extraordinary potential for brighter lives and a better world.

 

In A Universe of Lights, we wanted to capture how light has evolved into something far more intelligent, more connected, and more valuable.

 

Because when light energizes your day, supports your wellbeing, or makes a street feel safer, that’s not just illumination. That’s impact.

One of the most important shifts we made as a company was to start not with technology, but with people. When we put people first, it creates something truly valuable.

 

And that’s what you see in our film.

Light that helps people feel more energized. Light that supports creativity and focus. Light that makes cities safer and communities stronger.”  

In balance with the world around us

 

One of the most powerful ideas is simple: doing more with less. Lighting more homes, offices and streets while using less energy.

 

In two decades, our innovations have reduced by half the demand on the grid, but lighting still accounts for almost a tenth of global electricity use. We have a responsibility and an opportunity to do more.

 

We continue to advance energy efficiency. To design products that last longer, can be repaired, reused, and ultimately recycled. To use light to grow food more efficiently. And to protect the natural world.

 

This is what it means to bring light into balance with nature and society.

 

Connected by light

 

Designing light around people

Perhaps the most exciting transformation is what happens when light becomes connected. When every light point becomes part of a system, it starts to unlock something new: insight, adaptability and intelligence.

 

From smart cities to immersive entertainment, from industry to the home, connected lighting enables entirely new experiences, and entirely new ways of thinking about performance and efficiency.

 

These are not future concepts. They are real applications, already shaping how we live and work today.

 

Why now?

 

We chose to introduce this film at a moment when our company and brand are evolving. The Signify brand plays a growing role in our business, for connected systems and services and as a unifying brand that connects our portfolio for customers and partners.

 

But more than that, it represents a mindset: one that brings together innovation, sustainability, and customer value.

A universe of possibilities

 

One of my favorite elements of the film is the voice that guides it – a child. There’s something powerful about seeing the world through that lens. A sense of curiosity and wonder. It reminds me that the future isn’t abstract. It’s something we shape with every action we take.

Light plays such an important role in our lives. When we design it with purpose, intelligence and responsibility, we unlock something much bigger. A universe of possibilities – connected by light.”
