Philips Hue in the fast lane with the Mercedes-AMG PETRONAS F1 Team

In October, the brand took center stage at the United States Grand Prix in Austin, replacing the Signify logo on the Mercedes AMG-PETRONAS F1 Team car at the Circuit of the Americas.

When Philips Hue introduced smart home lighting to the US in 2012, Mercedes-AMG PETRONAS F1 Team drivers George Russell and Kimi Antonelli were still in school. More than a decade later, Hue remains at the heart of the smart home and continues to shape how people experience light. In October, the brand took center stage at the United States Grand Prix in Austin, replacing the Signify logo on the Mercedes AMG-PETRONAS F1 Team car at the Circuit of the Americas.

A tribute in Hue’s biggest market

Since launching as the world’s first app-controlled, web-enabled smart lighting system, Philips Hue has consistently set the benchmark for innovation in the smart home. What began with a single connected bulb has grown into an ecosystem that transforms lighting into an integrated part of everyday life, from entertainment and well-being to security and ambiance. It has continued to lead through groundbreaking innovations, including immersive experiences such as the HDMI Sync Box 8K and a redesigned line of gradient LED strip lights, as well as the recently introduced Hue Bridge Pro and the Philips Hue Essential range for newcomers. The Hue Secure portfolio, which includes smart cameras and a new video doorbell, expands the brand’s reach beyond lighting, reinforcing its ambition to play a central role in the connected home.

The United States is our number one market, so it’s fitting to celebrate the brand at the Circuit of the Americas. US consumers are quick to embrace connected living and lean into the latest developments in the home. It’s an exciting and dynamic market that inspires much of our innovation and drives Hue forward into new spaces."

Michael Kuhne,

CEO Consumer Business at Signify

Building momentum

“The last few weeks have been intense and exciting for the Hue team,” says Michael. “Last month’s product launch at Innovation for All (IFA) in Berlin was by far our biggest to date, including the hotly anticipated Hue Bridge Pro. There’s a tangible sense of momentum you can really feel inside the company. We are bringing more powerful, more differentiated offerings that open up new possibilities for our users – whether it’s a precision–controlled outdoor lighting system for the holidays, motion sensors turning lights on and off as we enter or leave a room or an integrated security system for peace of mind. Light is our inspiration to power so many aspects of the home experience. And we are just getting started.”

A partnership for performance

Hue’s success continues to be a driver of Signify’s  growth strategy for connected lighting. As of mid-2025, Signify had installed 156 million connected light points around the world. Connected and specialty lighting represented over a third of total sales.

The company’s partnership with Mercedes-AMG PETRONAS F1 Team helps elevate Signify and its portfolio of leading brands worldwide. Beyond visibility on the track, the collaboration highlights shared values: well-being and performance, experience and sustainability.

The Circuit of the Americas, with its striking Observation Tower illuminated by Signify’s Color Kinetics, embodies the same blend of performance, creativity, and innovation that defines Signify, Philips Hue and the Mercedes-AMG PETRONAS F1 Team.

“Working with the Mercedes-AMG PETRONAS F1 Team gives us a great platform to showcase not just our brand, but what lighting can do to enhance performance and well-being in the team, and of course bring a superb, immersive experience to fans at home,” adds Michael. “It’s these core ambitions: our passion for performance, our dedication to fan experience, and our shared leadership in sustainability - that bring our organizations together in such a powerful way.”

COTA has been a good circuit for our team over the years, with some memorable moments since it entered the sport.”

Bradley Lord,

Team Representative, Mercedes-AMG PETRONAS F1 Team

“Light plays a powerful role in creating focus, energy, and atmosphere, whether in our garages, at the factory, or in the home, and we’re proud to have Hue on our car in Austin.”

Look out for Philips Hue on display at the 2025 Formula 1 United States Grand Prix at Circuit of the Americas, Austin, October 17-19.
