Key topics and learnings

Reflections on (lighting) design for sustainability from a living-systems perspective.

We are all masters in the art of artificial illumination. Yet we tend to wield that powerful tool without truly considering our relationship with this living planet. Is it enough to design lighting solutions that meet human needs while minimizing their impact on the planet and its resources? Or can we take a bold step further — imagining a future where artificial light is mutually beneficial to the well-being of all living systems, strengthening our connection to life at large?

This talk invites you to embark on your own explorative journey—one that inspires curiosity, deepens critical thinking, and cultivates a stronger sense of connectedness in how we design for today’s challenges and tomorrow’s possibilities.

Learning objectives:

  1. Explore different sustainability paradigms and their implications for lighting design.
  2. Feel engaged and motivated to work with nature.
  3. Discover how living systems thinking can inspire regenerative approaches to lighting design.
  4. Discover practical tools for designing circular lighting solutions at the product level and reflect on your role in the product life cycle.
