This talk explores a human-centred approach to lighting design, shifting the focus away from architecture-driven solutions and toward what people truly need to thrive. By reframing the traditional lighting paradox, it places human experience and wellbeing at the core of every design decision.
Participants will gain practical tools to understand how artificial light shapes human experience and influences the nervous system. The session examines how carefully calibrated, tailored lighting schemes can enhance comfort, health, and emotional response, and even customer decisions, while poorly designed lighting can undermine even the best environments.
By attending, designers will learn how to develop lighting strategies grounded in a holistic understanding of human perception and behaviour—enabling them to create spaces where lighting actively supports wellbeing and becomes a positive, defining element of the environment.
