Broadband connectivity in smart communities in the US

Virginia Smart Community Testbed, the United States

Signify is part of the Virginia Smart Community Testbed in the US with its BrightSites Broadband Luminaire solution. The BrightSites solution enables cities to build a foundation for sustainable and digital smart cities through streetlight networks.

"As part of Stafford County’s digital transformation strategy, adding intelligence and connectivity to our lights will not only brighten our economic future but also serve as a showcase for all 95 counties in the State of VA to help bridge the connectivity gap."

John Holden, Director Stafford County Economic Development & Tourism

The Opportunity

The Stafford County created a testbed to showcase how to deploy broadband in urban, suburban and rural regions of the county and the state of Virginia. The vision is to make the Commonwealth of Virginia a leading state in Smart Community implementation, focusing on the economic, and social benefits of the digital transformation.

The Solution

The installation including the BrightSites Smart Pole and Broadband Luminaires was completed beginning of Q2 2022 and is located on the Stafford County Government Center campus. The broadband solution allows communities to quickly rollout next generation Smart City connectivity solutions. The Testbed is the first involving an IoT platform fully integrated with 5G, Wi-Fi 6, and other new and emerging technologies.
