Saint-Petersburg, Russia – In honor of the 200th Anniversary of the Victory in the Patriotic War of 1812, Philips and the State Hermitage presented the new LED lighting of the Triumphal Arch of the General Staff Building and the Chariot of Glory.
“According to its architect Carlo Rossi, the Chariot of Glory should be viewed from a distance. Now, thanks to Philips the winged chariot virtually hovers over the square even after the sunset”, says Mikhail Piotrovsky, Director of the State Hermitage Museum. “The new lighting of the Triumphal Arch of the General Staff Building and the Chariot of Glory gives the square artistic distinctiveness and highlights its architectural elements at night”.
The Arch of the General Staff Building is a war memorial of the Victory in the Patriotic War of 1812 and at the same time it serves as the entrance to the Palace square. Philips specialists illuminated the arches and the front of this construction which consists of three coupled arches decorated with bas-reliefs. At the same time the lighting leaves the architectural appearance intact. The sculpture of the Chariot of Glory is illuminated with powerful LED lighting that gives bright white light.
“It is a great honor to realize the lighting project for the symbol of the Victory in the Patriotic War of 1812, particularly in anticipation of its 200th Anniversary”, says Arjan de Jongste, Market Leader of Philips in Russia. “The realization of this project has further strengthened our already longstanding relationship with the State Hermitage”.
