Nominated by Signify employee Dwight Agosila, the Signify Foundation partnered with Caritas Philippines to bring emergency solar lighting to communities across Masbate, Cebu, and Davao Oriental in the aftermath of typhoons and a major earthquake.
When a series of typhoons and a 6.9 magnitude earthquake struck the Philippines in late 2025, the impact on Masbate, Cebu, and Davao Oriental was immediate and severe. Roads were blocked, electricity was cut, and more than 660,000 families were left trying to rebuild in makeshift shelters and tent cities without light after dark. In communities already accustomed to power outages, the loss of any remaining light meant that basic safety, care, and daily life became significantly harder to maintain. Dwight Agosila, a Signify employee based in the Netherlands with ties to the region, nominated the project through Project InVisible after learning of the scale of need on the ground.
The Signify Foundation responded by partnering with Caritas Philippines to distribute solar floodlights and bulbs across eight villages, three schools, and three health centres, reaching an estimated 80,000 people. The solar-powered nature of the lights was essential. With electricity infrastructure damaged or destroyed, only off-grid solutions could provide immediate, reliable relief.
