This summer Signify employee Marion Matheussen-van Vugt retired after a remarkable fifty years with the company
In 1969, John Lennon and Yoko Ono tied the knot in Gibraltar and Neil Armstrong became the first man on the moon. That same year, in Eindhoven, a young woman named Marion Matheussen got her first job. Little did she know then that she would spend her entire 50-year career at the same company: Philips Lighting/Signify.
It was her father, who was himself an employee at Philips, who told her “take a job at Philips, and you’ll be well looked after.” How right he was.
Her leaving party celebration was a fitting tribute for someone who gave a half-century of service. You don’t spend 50 years in one company unless you like it.
One of Marion’s absolute favorite things about working for Signify has been the people, “Always great people around me. People to report to and to work alongside.” She says that was what kept her motivated to get up every morning and go to work.
And when she hit the office, she was all business. According to Depovere, she was “very committed to her job, trustworthy and reliable.”
He was also careful to point out that the longevity of Matheussen’s career here is a positive reflection of the organization as well. “It shows that we give our people the opportunity to grow. In Marion’s 50 years here, technology has changed enormously, but she was able to grow and develop alongside.”
