Bringing the feeling of daylight underground

Humetro, Busan, Korea

Humetro, a public transportation corporation based in Busan, South Korea. Committed to passenger safety and comfort, Humetro recognized the need to upgrade its oldest subway stations to offer a more welcoming experience, particularly for elderly users who often use the stations as resting or meeting spots.

Our goal was to create a safe, comfortable environment for our passengers, especially the elderly. NatureConnect brings the feeling of an open sky indoors, reducing stress and creating a welcoming space.”

Hyungwon Jung, Design Center Leader, Humetro

Customer Challenge

These underground stations had dark, enclosed environments, creating an atmosphere that felt gloomy and isolated. Many elderly commuters spend long periods in these spaces, so Humetro wanted to recreate the positive effects of natural daylight, helping visitors feel welcomed, energized and comfortable, even deep underground.

Solution

Humetro partnered with Signify to implement NatureConnect. Through Day Rhythm and special light recipes, NatureConnect simulates the visual and biological benefits of a sunny day, reducing stress and supporting well-being. The result: a bright, attractive station environment where people feel safe, connected, and happy to stay longer.
