“We noticed better root development in our vegetative liner production, which leads not only to better quality, but also to labor savings because now less manual grading is needed”

Customer Challenge
Producing young plants of exceptional quality – reliably and on time – is paramount. But low natural light levels during Ontario's winter and spring present a challenge. In addition, Ontario growers are often limited by electric power availability. Under these circumstances, George Sant & Sons found themselves tapped out with what they could light with HPS lighting and searched for alternatives that enabled them to produce quality young plants, which led them to Philips LED lights.
What started with a modest trial of 48 Philips LED toplights in 2017 has grown to an impressive installation totaling 1,300 Philips LED toplights. Due to the LEDs’ energy efficiency, George Sant & Sons now has a 30% larger production area under lights while using the same electric usage as previously with HPS lights. Transitioning to LEDs proved to be easy, which Sant credits in no small part to Philips’ expertise and to their technical support team.
Philips GreenPower toplighting linear
Philips GreenPower toplighting is the product you’ll need when light uniformity is key. It offers full flexibility in mounting either c-profile or trellis mount. The result is optimal vertical light distribution and horizontal uniformity in cases where crop heights are limited or lower light levels are required.
