Our ambition is for 100% of our manufacturing sites to have a low nature impact by the end of 2030. To achieve this goal, we will reduce emissions to water and soil, and non-GHG emissions to air, and lower water use, hazardous waste generation, and waste to landfill from our manufacturing sites.
Signify supports the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals
Our ambition for low-nature-impact manufacturing is guided by UN SDG 15 (life on land).
What is low-nature-impact manufacturing?
Low-nature-impact manufacturing aims to bring the manufacturing process in line with guarding and protecting the environment. The goal is to minimize ecological effects while maintaining economic growth and competitiveness.
The Signify low-nature impact program
Low-nature impact is a program that focuses on limiting our manufacturing impact in six environmental areas:
- Non-GHG emissions to air
- Emissions to soil
- Emissions to water
- Water use
- Hazardous waste
- Waste to landfill
We achieve the program’s goals in a number of ways, including phasing out natural gas from our operations, transitioning to 100% renewable electricity, switching to battery-powered forklifts and other low-emission equipment, replacing chemicals with more environmentally friendly ones, reusing water, harvesting rainwater, and following procedures and training.

At our Monterrey manufacturing site, we implemented an advanced battery energy storage system to reduce peak energy demand, lower emissions, and increase the use of renewable energy. The system decreases reliance on non‑renewable sources while improving cost efficiency and energy resilience.
- Energy storage for peak‑hour demand
- Reduced reliance on non‑renewable energy
- 600 tonnes of CO₂ avoided per year
- 12,000 tonnes of CO₂ avoided over project lifetime
- Real‑time performance monitoring
