The future of smart home connectivity: WiZ among first smart lighting players to adopt industry-unifying technology Matter

  • WiZ Matter-upgradable products will be available from September 2021
  • By making its products compatible with Matter, WiZ goes one step further in its commitment to bringing connected smart lighting to everyone

Eindhoven, the Netherlands – Signify (Euronext: LIGHT), the world leader in lighting, announces WiZ as one of the first smart lighting players of which all new products will be Matter-upgradable. Matter, a new open-source industry-unifying technology that enables smart home devices to interact seamlessly, was announced by the Connectivity Standards Alliance on May 11. WiZ’s Matter-upgradable new products will hit the shelves from September 2021.

Making smart home onboarding even simpler

WiZ was the first smart lighting provider to adopt both WiFi and Bluetooth, for easier pairing and better connectivity. The daily, intuitive smart lighting brand is already anticipating the required changes to their new products to ensure they are ready to undergo a software upgrade as soon as Matter is launched by the Connectivity Standards Alliance. As one of the first smart home brands to anticipate this new industry-unifying standard in its new products, the brand demonstrates its commitment to offering all consumers an accessible plug-and-play setup, intuitive smart control and seamless interoperability between all WiZ connected lights and other smart devices.

With WiZ’s Matter-upgradable products, consumers will be prepared to connect the individual product to any other interoperable smart device.

Rapid adoption of the latest smart home innovation

September 2021 marks a milestone for the smart lighting brand — when all new WiZ product introductions will be Matter-upgradable. In the first half of 2022, WiZ expects its full product portfolio, including existing light bulbs, strip lights, downlights, lamps and other devices, to have the Matter seal of approval on the packaging and be compatible straight from the box.

We are extremely proud to announce that our products will be compatible with Matter so soon. This industry-unifying technology will catapult smart home technology and enable consumers to connect all their smart home devices seamlessly. By adopting Matter into our full product portfolio, WiZ continues to provide thoughtful products and easy-to-use technology that improves daily life and complements the homes of our users, making all-connected smart lighting super accessible.”

The future of IoT: Matter

Led by the biggest brands, and previously known as Project CHIP (Connected Home over IP), Matter simplifies the smart home experience with an industry-unifying standard that promises reliable, secure connectivity between various smart home devices. The capability — built on proven technologies and guided by the Connectivity Standards Alliance (formerly Zigbee Alliance) — simplifies development for manufacturers and increases compatibility for consumers.

Matter is expected to be launched by the Connectivity Standards Alliance in the last quarter of 2021. As of that moment, the new Matter-upgradable WiZ smart lighting products will be able to undergo a software update that will enable them to interact with a wide range of virtual assistants, smart speakers, smart TVs, and smart thermostats, more seamlessly and reliably.
