Eindhoven, the Netherlands – Signify (Euronext: LIGHT), the world leader in lighting, has completed the installation of Color Kinetics luminaires and Color Kinetics Luminous Textile panels in the ‘Guanyin Altar’  Buddhist temple on Mount Putuo in Zhejiang Province, China. It’s the first time Luminous Textile panels have been installed in a domed ceiling, creating a unique representation of skylight using dynamic color lighting, dynamic video content, and music. The lighting concept, introducing ‘skylight’ and a ‘world in a bottle,’ was designed by ATL Lighting.

The inner space of the Guanyin temple building is shaped like a vase, symbolizing Guanyin (Homophony Guan for Guang光 Light), and represents 'mount Sumeru' which in Buddhism equals the universe. The 4,500 Color Kinetics PureStyle IntelliHue Powercore luminaires uniquely illuminate the vase-shaped area – representing the world in a bottle - and the back plate of the Buddha statue in the temple. Color Kinetics IntelliHue technology is an advanced approach to color mixing, producing high-quality white light (tunable from 2,000 K to 10,000 K), subtle pastels, and fully saturated colors in the same precisely controllable luminaire.

A world first, 60 m2 of Color Kinetics Luminous Textile panels create a feeling of skylight in the domed ceiling, as natural light is not able to enter the interior. The panels simulate natural light by displaying dynamic video content set to music. Color Kinetics Luminous Textile is a configurable, high-quality and unique lighting system that seamlessly integrates multi-colored LEDs within beautiful fabric panels that also soften sound.

“The design concept of this architecture symbolizes Guanyin at the altar, having light penetrate through the treasure vase held by the statue as central part of the design,” said Jianping Wang, Design Director of ATL Lighting Design.

The Color Kinetics luminaires deliver outstanding light quality from its compact shape and was installed at a height that helped us create the intended atmosphere for the project in the space."

“Color Kinetics is Signify’s offer to designers and end-users to achieve beautiful results with lighting applications that go beyond their expectations. We are very proud of this project, bringing the design concept to life with our Color Kinetics luminaires and Luminous Textile panels,” said John Wang, Market Group Leader Greater China at Signify.

The Guanyin Altar of Putuoshan Guanyin Dharma Realm Project is part of a larger project creating Guanyin Expo Park based on the theme of Guanyin culture. The project is aimed to unite the functions of pilgrimage, sightseeing, experience and enlightenment, and integrates the Guanyin Bodhisattva and Guanyin culture.
