Philips Lighting launches new GreenPower LED interlighting with greater efficacy and plug & play installation

    January 24, 2017

Eindhoven, The Netherlands – Philips Lighting (Euronext Amsterdam ticker: LIGHT), a global leader in lighting, today announced the new Philips GreenPower LED interlighting system at the international trade fair for plants (IPM ESSEN) in Germany.

The new interlighting system boosts yield during the darker periods of the year, with sideways-facing LEDs focusing growth-stimulating light on the most vital parts of crops. The lighting module that allows the placement of light in between plants in high wire greenhouse plants such as tomatoes and cucumbers, has a light efficacy of 3.0 μmol/J.

The new system is designed to ease the installation process with its plug and play connector as well as its flexible cable connections which allow it to be lifted easily up to one meter during installation. 33 interlighting modules can be connected to the system with just one power connection, allowing considerable time savings while reducing installation costs up to 50 percent. The GreenPower LED interlighting module is also designed specially to minimize maintenance.

    Proven highest yields

After seeing strong results achieved by the tomato grower Herdi as well as record yields of 107 kg achieved last season by Proefstation Hoogstraten, Belgian tomato grower Tomaline decided to install the GreenPower LED interlighting system in the new greenhouse it will build.

“The very high light output of 220 μmol/s and resulting high efficacy of 2.8 μmol/J will give us exactly what we need to increase our yield,” said Kris van Haute co-owner of Tomaline. “The system comes as either a 2 meter or 2.5-meter version allowing us to tailor it to our specific situation and create a uniform light distribution right until the end of the row.”

    Developed in cooperation with growers

Udo van Slooten, Managing Director for Philips Lighting Horticulture LED Solutions said: “These latest innovations in our horticultural applications are a result of the long-term collaboration between Philips Lighting and our customers across the world. By working closely with them, we were able to identify exactly how we could further advance the system. As a result, we have developed and introduced the new Philips GreenPower LED interlighting system, providing greater ease of installation and a higher light efficacy which in turn results in higher yields”.

Philips Lighting horticulture can be visited in Hall 3, Booth D81 of the IPM trade show until January 27th, 2017.
