    Mains Dimmable LED Lamps

Affordable LED lighting is readily available and has become the consumers preferred choice. Given the pace at which LED has displaced incandescent and compact fluorescent lamps it is easy to overlook the sophisticated technology contained within a modern LED lamp.

Signify, formerly known as Philips Lighting, was and continues to be a pioneer in the development of LED technology for lighting our homes, offices, and public spaces.

One example of the innovations from Signify, which are available to other lighting companies via our EnabLED patent licensing program, relates to the circuity of LED lamps enabling them to work effectively with a wall based dimmer switch.

Incandescent lamps, consisting of a glowing tungsten filament, worked well with all mains powered dimmer switches. However, these dimmers interrupt the power provided to a lamp and cause simple LED lamps to flicker producing a poor-quality light output.

Within the EnabLED program there are fifty separate inventions that describe technologies to make LED lamps compatible with a wide range of commercially available dimmers to provide flicker-free light, enable wide dimming ranges with consistent and repeatable illumination, and high power factor.

In today’s market we regularly see these technologies utilized in third party dimmer compatible lamps showing the continued relevance of the EnabLED program to the ever-advancing LED illumination industry.
