Reaching New Heights in Architectural Lighting at One Vanderbilt Avenue
June 3rd, 2022
Few architectural structures define a city the way the skyscraper does New York. It’s no wonder why when 300 of them call it home!
New York’s latest addition, One Vanderbilt is the tallest office tower in midtown Manhattan and the city’s fourth largest skyscraper. And Signify is helping it reach new heights with our connected, dynamic architectural lighting!
Completed in Spring 2021
We collaborated with lighting designer Tillotson Design Associates and architect Kohn Pedersen Fox Associates to deliver a first-of-its-kind installation using Color Kinetics IntelliHue technology. Color Kinetics luminaires deliver a high level of flexibility and control to produce perfectly accurate colored and white light from the same luminaire, creating a rich display on One Vanderbilt’s crown and spire. With millions of saturated colors, pastels and uniform white light to choose from, these lights can be adjusted to honor any special occasion, from holidays to sporting events, and foster a sense of civic pride. For example, the building automatically lights up in the iconic blue and white stripes to cheer on the New York Yankees baseball team on game days.
In addition, the dynamic architectural lighting uses our Interact software and system, enabling building management to remotely monitor and generate lighting performance reports. One Vanderbilt can easily create, schedule and trigger light shows from anywhere at any time, too.
“My team and I worked closely with Signify on the illumination of the top of the One Vanderbilt tower over the course of several years,” said Suzan Tillotson, Tillotson Design Associates. “With extensive programming knowledge, Signify was able to bridge the gap between our vision and the client’s wish list for special events and holiday scenes. The entire process was efficient and enormously rewarding."
