Why experience is the real innovation at home

CES is a moment when direction becomes clear. Not through the number of launches, but through the experiences companies choose to build. Reflecting on the past year at Philips Hue, one thing stands out: innovation today isn’t about adding features. It’s about shaping experiences that feel natural, personal, and genuinely useful in everyday life.

In 2025, we introduced our most comprehensive portfolio of Philips Hue products and experiences to date — from the next evolution of the Hue Bridge, bringing more capacity and performance to the heart of the home, to new intelligent software capabilities that make lighting and automation feel more intuitive. But what matters most isn’t the list of launches. It’s the direction they point to.

Experience first — always

Over the past year, we’ve spent a lot of time reflecting on one core question: what makes a smart home feel truly intuitive? The answer isn’t more commands, more settings, or more complexity. It’s experience. Light has always been about more than illumination. It shapes how we wake up, how we relax, how we connect, and how we feel at home. From the beginning, Philips Hue set out to make light personal, dynamic, and expressive — lighting that adapts to moments, routines, and emotions, rather than asking people to adapt to technology. That belief continues to guide everything we build.

A new level of immersion

At CES, we introduced Hue SpatialAware, an innovation that takes lighting beyond predefined scenes and into something deeply immersive. By understanding the layout of a room and the placement of each Philips Hue light, SpatialAware renders light scenes that respond to space itself.

Instead of evenly distributing colors, scenes flow naturally through a room — closer to how light behaves in nature. The result is lighting that feels less engineered and more natural.

This is a clear example of how we’re moving away from technology-led experiences and toward lighting that intuitively adapts to people, spaces, and moments."

From smart lighting to intelligent ambience

We believe the future of the smart home isn’t defined by smarter controls, but by smarter experiences."

That’s why we’re evolving from smart lighting toward what we call intelligent ambience — lighting that understands context, space, and intent. Ambience designed for rooms, not devices. Light that adjusts seamlessly to how people live and move through their homes, creating atmospheres that feel balanced, comfortable, and effortless. This shift isn't about adding more technology - it's about making powerful experiences feel natural and easy to live with.

Designed for more homes

As smart lighting becomes more powerful, our responsibility is to make it accessible to more people, in more homes. Last year, we introduced the Philips Hue Essentials range to offer a simple entry point into the Philips Hue ecosystem. And later this year, we’ll expand our trusted Philips Smart LED portfolio — a Wi-Fi–based smart lighting offering focused on simplicity, accessibility, and ease of use.

Together, these platforms allow us to serve different needs and levels of experience, while staying true to the same core principle: lighting should feel intuitive, welcoming, and easy from day one.

What comes next

Everything ahead is guided by one idea: experience is the real innovation. As the smart home continues to evolve, our focus remains clear — designing lighting experiences that feel human, personal, and seamlessly integrated into everyday life."

Not because technology can do more, but because it should do less work for the people who live with it. That’s the direction we’re setting — and the future we’re building toward.
