Philips Culminates Year’s "Kota Terang Hemat Energi" Program by Illuminating Two Cultural Icons in Yogyakarta for the "Kota Terang Hemat Energi"

    November 2, 2013

Yogyakarta, Indonesia – Building upon the success of the ‘Kota Terang Hemat Energi with Philips LED’ program in Surabaya, Palembang and Denpasar,  Royal Philips (NYSE: PHG, AEX: PHIA) culminated the 2013 program by illuminating two cultural icons, Pagelaran Keraton and Serangan Umum 1 Maret monument, in Yogyakarta.

During the press conference in Alun-alun Utara (North Palace Square) Ryan Tirta Yudhistira, Head of Marketing, Lighting, PT Philips Indonesia, explained, "As a global company that strives to create meaningful innovation, Philips is proud to partner with the Yogyakarta government in illuminating two of its cultural and historical icons with the innovative LED lighting. We hope that this contribution will make the residents of the city more proud of their cultural values."

Philips research has shown that electricity consumption for lighting accounts for 19% of of all total elecricity consumption, causing 1.9 billion tons of CO2 emission globally. "By using Philips LED-based lighting to illuminate the cultural icons, not only can the Yogyakarta government use more than 18 million colors for a lighting show, but they can also save up to 85% on electricity spending with bulbs that last for up to 15 years," Ryan continued.

To illuminate Pagelaran Kraton in Alun-alun Utara and Serangan Umum 1 Maret monument located near the Vredeburg Fort, Philips has installed the Vaya Flood, EW Blast and Vaya Linear LED lighting models.  Pagelaran Kraton recalls the days of Yogyakarta royalty; while Serangan Umum 1 Maret’s details are put on spotlihgt. The lighting system’s Data Enable Pro allows for lighting control in all weather conditions and can be programmed according to lighting show needs.

Philips has been present in Yogyakarta for for many years: together with the government of Yogyakarta, Philips has already illuminated Gedung Agung, Tugu Yogyakarta (Yogyakarta Monument), Air Mancur Adipura (Adipura Fountain), and the Bantul Stadion. Philips LED have also been applied at Pesantren Al-Munawwir and Eastparc Hotel.

The various ‘Kota Terang Hemat Energi with Philips LED’ events in Yogyakarta commenced on October 28th with the Grand Opening of the Philips Home Lighting Store in Semarang; LED Workshop @ Campus at the Engineering Faculty of Universitas Gadjah Mada, Universitas Islam Indonesia and Universitas Atmajaya Yogyakarta; ‘Liveable Cities’ Stakeholders Roundtable; and LED Talk Show @ Royal Ambarukmo Plaza Hotel.

The program culminated on November 2th with various programs such as the LED Tunnel and Exhibition, "Touch the LED Light Competiition," communities bazar, illumination ceremony for Pegelaran Kraton and Serangan Umum 1 Maret monument,  and the Kota Terang concert featuring Sheila on 7, Princess, Bunga Citra Lestari and Ari Lasso.
