Signify gets busy around the globe for Good Deeds Day

    07 April 2019

This yearly volunteering event is an annual focal point for a company that loves to lend a hand

April 7th looks similar in Signify offices and factories around the world. From Mumbai to Eindhoven, and New Jersey to Beijing.

Instead of business as usual, it's 'volunteering as usual'. Signify has giving back as a key part of its DNA (See the Value Creation Model in our Annual Report). And one opportunity to celebrate this value is International Good Deeds Day, which falls on 7 April.

As Prajna Khanna, Head of CSR/ Foundation Director says, "Good Deeds Day is an opportunity for us to distill the volunteering efforts we do around the year into one action-packed day, which is also a celebration of the act of volunteering itself.”

Signify also has its own year-round corporate social responsibility program, promoting employee volunteering and employee giving through locally relevant initiatives.

One example is in Pakistan where initiatives in 2018 included retrofitting the lighting in schools, as well as delivering classes on energy efficiency as a climate change mitigator.

As Asad Jafar, Country Manager of Pakistan said, “It's an immensely satisfying team activity, where we get so much in return, a tremendous sense of pride in the company and comradery with each other.”

This year, Signify has decided to set 7 April as a type of kick-off day for further volunteering. So for the next month there's a renewed focus on Signify employees giving back to our communities.

As Good Deeds Day 2019 kicks off, let's look back on what we did last year:
