A celebrated visionary, master architect and powerful orator - Dr. Balkrishna Doshi is a fellow of the Royal Institute of British Architect and the Indian Institute of Architects. After initial study at the J J School of Architecture, Bombay, he worked with Le Corbusier as Senior Designer (1951-54) in Paris and four more years in India to supervise his projects in Ahmedabad. Ever since 1955 he established his office Vastu Shilpa (Environmental design) he has not looked back. His projects and design philosophy have marked the progress and recognition of modern Indian architecture.
Dr. Doshi has been a member of the Jury for several international and national competitions , an educator and institution builder. As an academician, he has been visiting the U.S.A. and Europe since 1958 and has held important chairs at American Universities.
His distinguished professional career is more than matched by his academic achievements as the first founder director of the School of Architecture, Ahmedabad started in 1962. His studio, Sangath, has been named among the 125 top international architectural buildings of the past 125 years by Architectural Record (AR), a monthly magazine dedicated to architecture and interior design based in New York.
Dr. Doshi has received several international and national awards and honours.
