Manila, Philippines – As the global leader in lighting solutions, Royal Philips Electronics is asking consumers and businesses to make the switch to sustainable LED lighting solutions that will help reduce energy-consumption and environmental impact beyond the 60 minutes.
Philips partnered with WWF Philippines and Starbucks in observing Earth Hour Philippines 2013, with the objective of making the Philippines into an environment-conscious nation. In a program held in Starbucks Bonifacio Global City last March 23, Philips underscored the need to slowly shift to the use of LED lighting solutions, in order to decrease carbon emissions that is considered to be a major factor in causing climate change. |
"This is the second year that Philips has partnered with Earth Hour to drive awareness on the need for sustainable lighting solutions that can make a difference to the environment and the use of energy resources," said Fabia Tetteroo-Bueno, Philips’ Philippines Country Manager. "This continuation in partnership signifies a strong commitment by Philips to continue to work with the community to drive awareness on the benefits of sustainable LED lighting solutions."
Electricity for lighting accounts for almost 20% of electricity consumption and 6% of CO2 emissions worldwide. If not addressed immediately, global energy consumption for lighting will grow by 60% in 2030. Just by making a simple switch, the Philips LED bulb can last up to 15 years and has energy saving capabilities of up to 85% .i
To help drive awareness around sustainable LED lighting solutions, Philips has donated 10,000 Philips LED bulbs across nine countries in the ASEAN Pacific region as part of its support towards Earth Hour. These energy-efficient LED bulbs were given to Earth Hour participants, advocates and supporters to help them experience what LED light can do.
Aside from the LED bulbs, Philips also donated solar-powered lamps to various non-profit organizations such as WWF Philippines, Pilipinas Shell Foundation, CFC-ANCOP, One Million Lights, and Starbucks’ foster communities. These lamps will be donated to various off-grid communities and projects across the country.
Philips will likewise be kicking off a major LED campaign in May 2012, in order to educate consumers on the economic and ecological benefits of its LED based products.
"Philips wants to play a pivotal role in transforming the Philippines into a low carbon economy. Since 1994, we have been continuously striving to create products that offer better environmental performance through our EcoDesign process. With the new LED campaign, we further assert our commitment to develop, promote, and market energy efficient solutions for people across different markets," said Tetteroo-Bueno.
