Dubai, United Arab Emirates – Royal Philips (NYSE: PHG; AEX: PHIA), the global leader in lighting, today announces the establishment of its Lighting Systems Center in Dubai. The Center falls in line with one of Philips key strategy pillars to drive innovation in professional lighting systems and services. The ultimate aim of the Dubai Systems Center is to become a world class point of excellence to help customers in developing and executing large scale projects.
The Philips Systems Center will support multiple markets in the different stages of a project, from proposition to contract delivery. Systems Centers are being established in several locations distributed across the USA, Europe and Asia. The establishment of a Systems Center in Dubai clearly positions the Emirate as the regional hub for Philips Lighting, supporting a wide geographic scope such as Africa, Turkey, Russia and Central Asia, as well as the wider Middle East. Dubai Systems Center will support these markets throughout the different stages of complex large-scale lighting projects. Dubai and the Emirates will benefit from the relocation and the physical presence of high caliber professionals who will contribute towards accelerating the transformation of Dubai into one of the smartest cities in the world.
The Dubai Systems Center will offer expertise in the area of Architecture and Service Management, Design and Engineering, Energy Services, Financing and Project Management. Working in close collaboration with the local market organization, Philips Lighting has already delivered several complex large-scale projects last year in Dubai including a partnership with Dubai Municipality.
Alfonso D’Andretta, Head of Systems Center Dubai, said: “Our main goal is for the new Dubai Systems Center to help develop world class competencies in professional lighting systems and services, throughout the Middle East and beyond. Already, complex projects have been developed and executed through the Dubai Systems Center of which we are very proud and have been deemed extremely successful by our clients. We are excited to build on these successes and help other customers develop and implement similar projects.”
One of the latest examples of how the Systems Center supported a market organization is a recent project, which included refurbishment of the lighting infrastructure across six power plants of Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA) and is based on an ESCO (Energy Service Company) model. Philips is currently working on the implementation of lighting energy conservation measures at the power plants and once completed, will guarantee lighting load and lighting levels delivered by the system for a period of five years. Philips’ scope in this project was to deliver energy audit, system design and engineering, installation, project management, maintenance and performance guarantees. Philips has become the first lighting company which has demonstrated evidence of capabilities and capacity to design and execute performance contracts as well as provide reference projects executed in the relevant sector in Dubai, and has received provisional accreditation as an ESCO by the Regulatory and Supervisory Bureau in Dubai. Philips has taken concrete steps towards investing in developing capabilities to address new complexities and enter new arenas.
Philips Lighting Systems Center is currently engaging in developing large-scale opportunities in countries within the Middle East and beyond. Experience from these current projects which include complex integrated systems and new business models will allow to leverage and further build on the existing expertise and share best practices with customers in the UAE.
The Systems Center is currently represented by people from over 10 nationalities with the aim to maintain diversity as well as being able to address specific needs of local markets.
