Dubai, UAE - With a mission to improve the quality of life through meaningful innovations, and the vision to strive for a healthier and more sustainable world, Royal Philips (NYSE: PHG, AEX: PHIA) held an informative session today highlighting the global and regional impact of lighting on peoples’ lives. The session was hosted at the Change Initiative where Mr. Adbo Rouhana, Head of Philips Lighting University presented insights and initiatives led by Philips to innovate lighting and its applications in the Middle East.
During the session, Mr. Rouhana highlighted the energy impact on lighting, stating that lighting consumes 19% of all electricity throughout the world and 22% throughout the Middle East. This, of course, has an environmental impact that can be detected when comparing incandescent and gas discharge bulbs to LED technology. He also stated that lighting has a biological affect on people, explaining the difference between bright and warm lighting and its effect on our daily lives.
Nowadays our world is facing significant challenges: global warming, population growth and aging, stress, rising healthcare costs, unprecedented urbanisation, and serious resource constraints, to name just a few. “Lighting plays a crucial role in our lives and the impact is all around us from energy consumption to well-being and the environment, and we are always keen on highlighting this information and creating awareness,” said Rouhana. “Being at the forefront of lighting innovation in the region, Philips continues to drive end-to-end solutions, from the latest LED technology through to intelligent management and control systems, to help address some of these challenges.”
One of the latest innovations from Philips Lighting is the Philips MASTER LEDbulb 20 watt designed to replace a 100 watt incandescent bulb while reducing energy consumption by more than 80 percent and lasting 25 times longer, the Philips LED 20-watt offers the industry’s highest light output at nearly 1521 lumens. For commercial customers, this will help lower initial acquisition costs and accelerate return on investment.
The Philips LED 20-watt offers a dimmable glow effect for a welcoming, warm atmosphere, making it ideal for general lighting applications. Its unique design radiates warm light in all directions, making it a true alternative to the incandescent lamp. They are particularly suitable for public areas such as lobbies, corridors, stairwells, where the light is always on.
The Change Initiative is one of Philips’ many customers in the UAE and have worked together to ensure that the lighting in its Sheikh Zayed Road store is both low on energy consumption and creates the right ambience for customers.
“The Philips Lighting team in the Middle East has helped us to conceptualize, design and execute our store which boasts one of the most energy efficient LED lighting in the region and has been awarded the LEED ® Platinum certification, obtaining the position of the most sustainable building in the world,” said Gundeep Singh, CEO and founder of The Change Initiative in Dubai. “The lighting system has been designed to consume 42% lower energy than the specified limit”
