    Key topics and learnings

As we become older, the very physiology of how we see is altered, and the aesthetics of how we appreciate lighting in our environment also changes. To be able to see and work comfortably, mature eyes require more light. And through the years, our eyes become increasingly sensitive to glare.

This Light Bite discusses the physiological aspects of these changes. We will also look at how changes in commercial, residential and institutional lighting applications can make a real difference in people’s quality of life. In a broader sense, we will see how awareness, empathy and knowledge are essential in crafting effective lighting solutions for an aging population.

Human beings are highly sensory creatures, and the way in which we experience the world around us has a great impact on our wellbeing. For example, as we age, our eyes perceive things differently. Through intelligent lighting design, Philips can help people deal with the effects of such changes.
