MANILA, Philippines – Philips Lighting Country Manager Jagan Srinivasan is the newest member of the Philippine Energy Efficiency Alliance (PE2) Board of Trustees. The election took place during the organization’s Annual General Membership Meeting held recently.
Srinivasan, along with PE2’s fourteen other board members, will support the local efforts for long-term energy intensity reduction, annual final energy demand reduction, and greenhouse gas emission avoidance targets.
PE2 President Alexander Ablaza said, “Our momentum as the Alliance is driven by the passion shared by the new and founding members of the Board. PE2 is blessed with Jagan’s entry into the board, bringing with him the worldwide energy efficiency drive that Philips Lighting is known for.”
Srinivasan expressed, “Currently, 15% of the world’s electricity demand is for lighting. This can be brought down to 8% by 2030 through the use of LED lighting technology with smart controls.”
“We believe the nations of the world must act now to adopt more ambitious energy efficiency goals, at least doubling the rate of energy efficiency gains to match growth in energy consumption,” he concluded.
Philips Lighting believes that accelerated conversion to energy efficient LED lighting is a global imperative, and the company fully supports the Philippines’ recent decision to formally join the Paris Agreement along with 174 other countries. The agreement is intended to address climate change and reduce carbon emission by 70% come 2030.
To help achieve this, Philips Lighting has also joined the World Green Building Council and the Climate Group in issuing a global call that all new buildings use LED lighting by 2020; all street lighting be LED by 2025; and all new and existing buildings use LED lighting by 2030.
