Philips expands the connected lighting world of Hue

Introducing new ‘Friends of Hue’ – LivingColors and LightStrips add light to life at home

    August 12, 2014

Sydney, Australia: Royal Philips, the global leader in lighting, continues to advance the connected lighting revolution, launching ‘Friends of Hue’* to bring dynamic immersive lighting to Australian homes.  Inspiring new ways for people to connect with the things they love through light, the new Friends of Hue LivingColors and Friends of Hue LightStrips connect to Philips Hue using the Hue app, where light and colour come together to instantly transform the

way we experience light at home, wirelessly. You can even synchronise lighting with your music using additional Hue apps.

New Friends of Hue LivingColors Bloom* is compact, portable and designed to fit in small spaces, offering up to 16 million different ways to colour your home with the swipe of a finger on the app.  This versatile light source can be placed wherever you need it - through the Philips Hue app match colour light to a moment or add accents to your home by directly lighting a space or washing a wall with a splash of colour. You can even highlight a spot then program LivingColors Bloom to gradually dial down the intensity to blend soft, smooth tones across a room.

Friends of Hue LightStrips* are innovatively designed to deliver ‘indirect’ light and can be bent and fixed to personalise your home lighting experience.  These flexible two metre strips studded with LEDs provide complete design freedom - run them under a sofa or concealed under shelves.

The Philips Hue connected lighting ecosystem* for the home is controllable using your smart device. Requiring just a few minutes to set up, the intuitive app (iOS or Android) allows you to remotely tune, control and personalise your home lighting experience to suit your mood with custom settings and program timers to help manage daily schedules.

Taking advantage of endless Philips Hue app capabilities, wake up in the morning to rising shades of warm colour or create effects synced with music.  With Hue enabled geofencing features, your smartphone or tablet can even detect when you’re almost home and trigger the entire Hue ecosystem of lights to automatically turn on so that you will never enter your home in the darkness again.  By using IFTTT (If This Then That)**, you can turn the light any colour when you get a new Facebook message or even match your favorite team’s colour to show when a goal has been scored.

“At Philips our core focus has always been to improve people’s lives through meaningful innovation, and we believe we have done just that by expanding the range of possibilities of Hue through Friends of Hue,” said Rob Fletcher, General Manager of Philips Lighting Australia and New Zealand. “The scope of smart LED technology means we are able to control lighting in more intuitive, exciting and smarter ways.”
