    March 15, 2014

Medan, Indonesia – Royal Philips (NYSE: PHG, AEX: PHIA), the global lighting industry leader, illuminated the Medan Mayor’s office to mirror the city pride of Medan’s diverse citizens.  This is one of a series of Philips programs to empower cities with Philips sustainable, integrated lighting solutions.

At the press conference at the Grand Aston Cityhall Hotel, Ryan Tirta Yudhistira, Head of Marketing, Philips Lighting Commercial, PT Philips Indonesia, said, "When you go anywhere in Medan, one thing you will notice is the great sense of pride within the people.  Although people come from diverse backgrounds, they’re proud to be from Medan.  We’re trying to represent that pride by illuminating the Mayor’s Office with Philips LED technology."

With Kota Terang Philips LED, Philips delivers sustainable lighting solutions to the people of Medan through partnerships. To illuminate the Mayor’s Office, Philips works closely with the Medan government.  Philips also partners with the Chief Engineers Association to support infrastructure development in Medan in order to train chief engineers, and reaches out to communities through LED Workshops @ Campus, a photography workshop and competition, and a talk show with professional associations and community members.

"At Philips, we embrace partnership with forward-thinking communities to understand the perspective of the citizens of a community and aim to make recommendations on how to make our cities more energy-efficient," added Ryan.

Philips provides integrated lighting innovations through the Philips Lighting Services program. This is a one-stop solution partnership program that provides financing plans and project managements in lighting system. Already in Medan, Philips has provided LED solutions at Kuala Namu airport and the Binjai toll road.

The illumination ceremony, conducted at Lapangan Merdeka, consists of the final rounds for the ‘Touch the LED Light Competition’, Philips and Communities Bazaar and Children Playground, and the Kota Terang Philips LED concert. Since its launch in 2012, the Kota Terang Philips LED has illuminated icons in Jakarta, Surabaya, Palembang, Bali and Yogyakarta.  The program commenced this year in Bandung, with Medan being its second stop.  The program is large part of Philips’ mission to improve lives through meaningful innovation.
