Key topics and learnings

The primary purpose of artificial lighting of any kind is, quite literally, to shine a light in the dark. But the effect that lighting has on people’s lives and well-being goes far beyond such functional illumination. Light affects how we feel, move about and live our lives. We immediately feel these effects in our homes and offices, but they apply to cityscapes as well.

More and more, our scientific understanding of the role of lighting has strengthened the realization that smart lighting solutions in urban spaces can play a major part in effecting societal change. A city’s atmosphere and social behavioral patterns can be influenced by outdoor lighting solutions – bringing value to a variety of stakeholders in the public space.

In Smart public-lighting solutions as a catalyst for smart cities you will discover how the lighting industry is gearing up for some major changes. Like the move to new business models based on services rather than hardware products, and innovations that are powered as much by cutting-edge research as they are by insights into human nature and city planning.
