    Philips Lighting Egypt delivers its promises of educating its youth


    Phillips vows to ensure the improvement of higher education in Egypt in cooperation with Ain Shams University

    Cairo, Egypt, as part of the third round from Cairo to Cape Town, Royal Philips has announced a partnership with the Supreme Council of Universities of the Ministry of Higher Education in Egypt in 2012. The company has signed a memorandum of understanding with the Supreme Council of Universities to contribute with educational programs for a better youth future, with the aim of improving the clinical and practical knowledge, technology and skills of students in the disciplines of engineering and health care.

     

    As part of the activation of the plan this year Phillips Egypt was honored to collaborate with Ain Shams University through the signing of an agreement to provide practical training where 5 weekly sessions; each of 4 hours duration and total of 20 hours were conducted with attendance of 50 students in the field of Energy Saving, Lighting fundamentals and LED Lighting Technology. Students received a certificate of completing the lighting fundamentals course and LED Lighting Technology.

     

    It should be mentioned that this year trainees are the first class to be graduated from Energy department and will specialize in the green and renewable energy. As sustainable and green lighting solutions are consistent with the core values ​​of Philips, the lighting training was very successful and further plans to educate more students was put in place.

We have been establishing our commitment to knowledge transfer since 2010 until 2013, and we will work together to meet the needs of increasing the current students for education and training.     Prof. Dr. Sherif Hammad, Dean of Faculty of Engineering- Ain Shams University, emphasized on the importance of cooperation in the coming years between Faculty of Engineering and the Multinational companies in order to provide Engineering students with training programs and practical experience which will qualify them to compete in the market force after graduation.  

     

    This year, Philips “Cape town to Cairo road show” started in South Africa on the 14th of May 2013 and will make its way across sixteen countries and nineteen cities in Africa ending in Cairo on the 26th of September 2013. During the road show, Philips is showcasing its new innovations and engaging with customers, governments, NGOs and media on topics relating to key challenges facing Africa today.
