Lighting Up MONAS, Philips launches "Kota Terang Hemat Energi" as a commitment to energy efficiency

    Jakarta, Indonesia – As a commitment to support energy efficient initiatives, Royal Philips Electronics (NYSE: PHG, AEX: PHI) that aims to enhance people’s lives, today in collaboration with the government of Jakarta is launching Kota Terang Hemat Energi programme by lighting the iconic monument, MONAS with the latest state-of-the-art dynamic and sustainable lighting system.

 

“Driven by energy efficiency efforts, we work together with municipalities in Indonesia and proudly launch Kota Terang Hemat Energi featuring a unique LED lighting system that creates significant changes in the way people use and experience light. Lighting represents more than 15% of all energy used globally. “Cities and municipalities face today’s challenges such as increasing rate of urbanization and energy crisis while work to reconnect to its own people and attract economy. That is why it is important for municipalities to recognize the needs to enhance the quality of urban setting with advanced and sustainable solutions,” explains Jimmy Juwana, an expert in sustainable development of Trisakti University.

 

With LED technology we can potentially save 50% of energy used today for lighting. This equals to Global savings of EUR 106 billion in energy costs per year; or 555 million tons of CO2 per year. Moreover, it offers longer life span of 15-20 years and environmentally friendly.

 

Using Philips LED Colorich PowerCore lighting technology will make it possible to control and focus the light exactly where and how the effect is desired. The new lighting system will allow MONAS to be seen from anywhere in Jakarta. “Lighting Monas has been an aspiration for us. Our LED technology can create a solution that could achieve the design for the building’s façade, and at the same time, keeping true to the building’s identity as a historical iconic symbol of Jakarta,” states Ryan Tirta Yudhistira, Senior Marketing Manager of Lighting Philips Indonesia.

Activities During “Kota Terang Hemat Energi” Event at MONAS

At “Touch the LED Light Bulb” competition, participants are given live proof that LED-based lighting solutions exude less heat and are therefore able to be touched for hours even in lit condition.

 

“Philips LED Garden” showcases Philips LED MyVision that is designed for home application that offers energy-saving, cost-saving, and environmental friendly.

 

“Light Up, Monas!” is lighting up Monas with colourful LED lighting at night which is a concrete example of how LED-based lighting solution can be controlled and resulted desired effect and able to beautify a city.

 

“Philips LED Mozaic Umbrella” is breaking of the Guinness World Records in the formation of a giant mosaic umbrella consisting of more than 2,300 people holding the LED-lit umbrellas forming the logo “Philips LED”. Objective of this record-breaking Philips LED Mozaic Umbrella is to put Indonesia name on the international map, thereby foster nationalism and increase pride towards Indonesia.
