Through our ‘Light for Sports’ mission, we’re committed to lighting up Cruyff Courts for special needs and underserved children across communities in the Dutch Caribbean, Spain, South Africa and more!
The Johan Cruyff Foundation supports and develops sports activities for children all over the world, with a focus on children in need. This is done through sports projects for children with disabilities, as well as projects such as the Cruyff Courts which offer children a safe place to get together, to make friends and to grow. These are vitals spaces to improve physical and mental health.
Alongside lighting Cruyff Courts in the community, Signify has also supported lighting for special Cruyff Courts at institutions for children with disabilities, such as the one in Rio for visually impaired children. Special Cruyff Courts are adapted to serve the specific needs of the children.
‘Light for Sports’ is part of Signify Foundation’s mission to light up underserved areas where sports activities are less accessible. We work together with the Johan Cruyff Foundation so that sport-related activities don’t have to stop after sunset.
A testament to our ambitious ‘Light for Sports’ mission is the Cruyff Court in Saba. It has become a communal place where people of all ages come together to play sports. Even though Saba Court is one of the largest courts created by the Johan Cruyff Foundation, the lighting installation used to be poor. As a result, the court wasn’t used by the youth in the community after dark. Since the Johan Cruyff Foundation installed the lights, provided by the Signify Foundation, the Cruyff Court has become an important meeting place for kids to play together and be active, well past twilight.
