Assuring travelers and guests a secure and safe environment to work and relax

    Hotel Reception

As we look forward to travel picking up again, guests will want to be reassured that their hotel is doing everything it can to neutralize viruses and bacteria. In addition to following physical distancing and mask wearing guidelines, hotels should consider adding extra layers of disinfection to their existing processes.

In the hospitality environment, virus transmission can occur via several methods:

    • Direct air-born transmission between people at check-in, in elevators, and in common areas.
    • Indirect air-born transmission through air flows throughout the hotel.
    • ndirect surface-born transmission via contaminated surfaces such as TV remotes, telephones and in en suite bathrooms.

Traditional cleaning methods, using highly effective liquids and sprays, may be sufficient to address some areas. However, hoteliers should consider UV-C lighting to help with the large-scale disinfection of their facilities.

UV-C lighting is a proven disinfectant for air, surfaces and objects. The effectiveness of Signify’s UV-C light sources on the inactivation of SARS-COV-2, the virus that causes COVID-19, was even validated in laboratory testing conducted at the National Emerging Infectious Diseases Laboratories at Boston University1. We have now developed new UV-C luminaires and solutions to help the hospitality sector provide service to their customers in an environment that is designed with safety in mind.

As we resume travel and leisure, it will be critical to instil confidence in guests that everything possible is being done to neutralize viruses and bacteria. Signify is dedicated to helping customers meet the challenges of the “new normal” and be better prepared for the future.

1 Recent study performed by Boston University, in collaboration with Signify Research, shows the vulnerabililty of SARS-CoV-2 to UV-C radiation. The study shows a required dose of around 22 ml/cm2 to inactive SARS-CoV-2 to a Log6 level (https://www.researchsquare.com/article/rs-65742/v1).
