Philips floodlighting projects honoured at Lighting Industry’s EMILAS Awards 2010

    December 10, 2010

London, UK:  Royal Philips Electronics (AEX: PHI, NYSE: PHG) has been honoured with  2 awards for external lighting projects at the Lighting Industry Federation’s EMILAS Awards Ceremony held on November 17th 2010.

“We are delighted that these 2 projects have been recognised in this way particularly since these high profile awards focus on recognising lighting refurbishment schemes that demonstrate significant energy savings without compromising the quality of the lighting.” said Andy Gowen, Director, Outdoor Lighting, Philips.

The lighting of the Tamar Building won the Building Facade Floodlighting Category which Philips undertook on behalf of Nottingham City Council. The LED scheme has enhanced the city centre environment whilst achieving an energy saving of over 90% at the same time.

Philips also gained a Highly Commended award in the same category for a project undertaken in conjunction with Southwark Council. The LED lighting system used to floodlight the council building canopy in Peckham was also linked to an I-player to provide colour changing effects. The interactive system can be triggered by a digital Barometer and provides a 50% energy saving.

Both projects demonstrate significant savings against previous installations by utilising efficient products and lighting controls where appropriate.
