Philips to introduce MASTER TL- D Power Saver Set in response to T8 standard halophosphate phase out.

    July 8, 2010

Amsterdam, the Netherlands – Royal Philips Electronics (NYSE: PHG, AEX: PHI) has introduced a range of product and system solutions for professional customers in response to the phase out of T8 halophosphate fluorescent tubes within the European Union.  The phase-out which began in April this year will provide a significant contribution to reducing energy use and carbon emissions.

    Range of energy-efficient product solutions

Philips believes the lighting industry is an excellent partner for both commercial and public sector customers by helping them lower their costs and carbon emissions via simple but effective upgrades away from conventional lighting technologies.

The company offers customers a broad portfolio of energy-efficient lighting solutions, from lamps and luminaries to electronics and controls – all capable of lowering both operational costs and CO2 emissions:

Philips will launch the MASTER TL-D Power Saver Set as an alternative solution for general lighting applications enabling professional customers to make a quick and efficient switch to energy-saving technologies in compliance with the new legislation.

    The MASTER TL-D PowerSaverSet
The MASTER TL-D Power Saver Set offers a solution for businesses wishing to reduce their energy bill by providing up to 30% energy saving whilst maintaining the same lighting level as with T8 standard halophosphate lamps. Light quality (colour rendering index) is, however, much higher. The MASTER TL-D Power Saver Set has a 2-3 years payback making it attractive for the end user.

The MASTER TL-D Power Saver Set combines Philips’ recent developments of its most efficient TL-D lamp and its new, highly intelligent, electronic starter. This combination offers a twofold benefit.

Firstly, the intelligent starter means that professional users can have most of the advantages of High Frequency control gear without the added cost since the intelligent starter is an integral component with the system. Thus, the energy saving benefits and extended lamp life of between 20-25 % can been enjoyed immediately – simply plug in and play. The MASTER TL-D Power Saver Set does away with the need to build in additional time, resource and budget which switching to HF gear would demand. In addition, the smart starter provides a smooth, instant start-up of the lamps and no end of life lamp flicker.

Secondly, the phosphor mix and lamp design of the TLD 80 lamp delivers high colour quality white light with the same light level and 30% energy saving. Good quality light is an important factor in providing a comfortable and more productive work environment. Independent studies support this showing that people prefer working under higher quality TLD 80 lighting than T8 Standard.

The MASTER TL-D Power Saver Set will be available in the UK from June onwards.
