Cairo, Egypt – Philips Lighting, a Royal Philips (NYSE: PHG, AEX, PHIA) company and global leader in lighting, has chosen Cairo Stadium Indoor Hall as the first venue in Africa in which to install its ArenaVision LED Lighting System. The successful instillation took less than four months as the Philips’ team in Egypt replaced the existing conventional ArenaVision Luminaries with the latest ArenaVision LED system at Cairo Stadium.
Cairo Stadium is an indoor sports complex comprising of four Olympic-standard, multi-use sporting arenas with a capacity of 20,000 spectators. The 2016 African Men’s Handball Championship was the first event to benefit from the Philips lighting technology. With the illumination of an iconic sports venue in Egypt, the new ArenaVision LED Lighting System will increase the stadium’s potential to participate in international sports tournaments by meeting internationally required lighting standards.

With 160 luminaries, the new luminaire system saves up to 50% energy in comparison to the old conventional luminaires. The unique design of the new ArenaVision LED Lighting System offers a wide range of advantages including supporting high-definition flicker free TV broadcasting, low maintenance costs, better lighting conditions for players, and an instant on/off switch that allows seamless switching between different types of events and themes during games and other entertainment shows to provide the audience with an unforgettable experience.
“The new lighting system output is much stronger than the old one. It also enabled high definition, flicker free TV broadcasting, with almost 50% energy savings in the power consumption”, said Yasser Abdolmoneim Aly, Cairo Stadium Covered Halls Complex Manager. “Now, we can use the stadium for entertainment shows, exhibitions, sports opening ceremonies”, he added.
